I'm Back from Park City, Utah!

Park City, Utah was a treat to visit again. I was honored at a solo show of my sculpture on Saturday, January 16th at the DISTRICT Gallery located at 1105 Iron Horse Drive in Park City. All of my pieces were carefully packed here in Healdsburg, shipped and arrived safely to Utah. The gallery owner, Karen Snizik Alvarez, was thrilled to see my newest work such as TRACERY pictured above. I carved it from a block of Italian Alabaster. It measures 16"H x 10"W x 6"L. It was great to see my pieces in her new 3000 square foot space. It was also great to see many familiar faces at the reception. It was fun to have sculptor, Ed Fraughton, attend my reception and invite me to see his studio. I had a great time visiting his Salt Lake City studio and foundry. In the other photograph I'm pictured with Kacy & Dusty LaHaye. We are standing next to ELARA B; one of the bronze pieces on exhibit.
I've now shown in over 300 exhibits and shows in the past 30 years. And I have quite a schedule for 2010. Watch for what's next!

New Work for Utah Show!

My new pieces are on a truck right now that is heading to Park City, Utah. The gallery, DISTRICT, will be hosting a solo show of my work. I'm flying there for the art reception which is this Saturday, January 16 from 5-8pm. Join me if you can. Park City is a huge tourist spot for avid skiers. The gallery owner told me yesterday that they haven't had any snow since Christmas but it is definitely cold. I'm excited to be showing in Utah; love the rock there. There are 18 pieces in the show some of which I carved from Utah Calcite and Utah Rhyolite. Here's a picture of the newest Rhyolite piece. It's called "Sarissa" and measures 27"H x 6"W x 6"L. In my recent press statement, DISTRICT gallery owner, Karen Snizik Alvarez, is quoted as saying "I'm so excited to have T Barny in the new 3000 square foot space. His work will be beautifully complimented by the light and tall ceilings. I want people to have room to walk around each piece to visually get the full impact." I'll let you know how it went next week. Stay tuned.

T Barny Receives Award

"BEST BODY OF WORK"
T Barny was awarded the "Best Body of Work" at the all sculpture showcase exhibit at the Plaza Arts Center in Healdsburg, California. The show, "Chiselers", will continue through March 23, 2009. The gallery is located at 130 Plaza Street. Hours: 11am-5pm daily.

The showcase features 9 sculptors including myself. I decided to represent a variety of stone choices, as well as, my different styles and designs. I brought in 13 different pieces. They include the fossil series, my mobius design and curvilinear pieces. The pieces are carved from French Sandstone, Mexican Fluorite, Turkish Marble, Utah Calcite, Monterey Marble and Bardiglio Marble. Also, in the collection is a wood piece created from Walnut and a 5 bronzes. The piece pictured here is titled KOAN. By definition, Koan means 'Paradoxical Anecdote'. It measures 12"H x 11"W x 6"L. The price is $3900. I chose to complement Koan with a glass base. It works with the color and sets it apart from the typical black bases.

STONE IV, an exhibit of Sonoma County Stone Sculptors appears at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in Sebastopol, California every 7 years. This is the fourth in a series that began in 1979. The continued goal of the series is to show the range and talent of stone sculptors residing in Sonoma County, including professional stone sculptors who are new to the area, as well as those who have participated in previous exhibitions.
The curators, Warren Arnold and Clark Mitchel, stressed that they wanted 3 pieces per artist that they feel really defined their body of work. I exhibited this mobius, a superellipsoid piece of Utah Calcite and a curvilinear piece of Bardiglio Marble. The show was a great success. The mobius piece was scheduled to be part of the installation I just set up today called "Chiselers" at the Plaza Arts Center in Healdsburg, CA but the piece just sold. The "Chiselers" exhibit does include 13 of my pieces including the new Mexican Fluorite piece titled "Koan".
