NEWS

The Santa Rosa Symphony
League will be hosting their
Spring Event here at the
T Barny Gallery & Sculpture
Gardens at 2pm on Tuesday,
April 13, 2010.

An Afternoon with Sculptor T Barny

Master stone carver, T Barny will host attendees in his sculpture garden in the beautiful Alexander Valley, Healdsburg, CA, and lead a tour of his studio. He'll don his full stone-cutting gear, including helmet and protective body suit, and demonstrate his diamond-tipped saw, explain where he finds his stone, and show samples of work in progress. If you know a person who is fascinated by really big saws, he or she will definitely enjoy this demonstration - as will all art lovers.
This is a fundraiser for the Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra Music Education
Programs.
$35 per person. To purchase tickets, http://www.santarosasymphony.com/league/events/html Click on: Dates 2009-2010

Collector's Event - June 12, 2010

T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
The annual June "Collector's Event" is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2010. I will be introducing the Bronze Series in 3 patina color choices. The theme for this year was "Rock & Roll". Rock & Roll is here to stay at the T Barny Gallery & Sculpture Gardens. I am creating an exhibit of musical instruments made of stone. We changed the date for this theme to only make it bigger and better. I have so many ideas that basically I just need more time to make it a spectacular show. It's been interesting discovering that certain stones do ring and some don't. I'm excited about this and the design possibilities. This creates diversity in my body of work and it deserves the time and effort a new series requires. The bonus is that Rock & Roll will now coincide with my 30th Year of Sculpture! A huge celebration is scheduled for June 11, 2011.

SCULPTURE NEWS

You can now see 3-D video's of your favorite sculptures on my website. It has been quite an overhaul from a flash site (which was popular way back when) to a site that is now easily accessible for all. I have over 85 videos posted on You Tube which is connected to my website. It allows easy back and forth viewing of my pieces in motion. You can also enjoy videos of some of my gallery openings, carving demonstrations and artist-in-residence programs from Greece and Italy. Some videos even include my private June Collector's Event such as Calcite 2008. We are continually updating the site with New Work and new information. Check it out at: http://www.tbarny.com.

Musical Inspiration

T BARNY
SCULPTURE
NEWS
As some of you may have read in a previous post, my themed Collector's Event this year is called Rock & Roll. I am carving musical instruments out of stone. Some clients have asked where do I get my inspiration. With this show, it comes easy as I listen to Rock & Roll everyday in my studio. It has a beat; a cadence that helps with the motion of the tools and the dance of the stone. The challenge so far has been to discover which stones ring to make musical sounds. I've talked to recording studio owners about instruments. I've been rock hunting in stone yards with drumsticks in hand. I've met with musician friends bouncing ideas off of them finding that one great idea leads to another. I'm excited that the show will lend itself to a totally interactive experience. I've always stressed to the viewer of my work to touch the stone and feel my designs. Now they also have the chance to play these instruments and hear my sculpture sing. STONES CAN SING!

ARTrails 2010

T BARNY
SCULPTURE
NEWS

Spring is around the corner which means it is time to apply to our Sonoma County ARTrails program. It is a two weekend event in October where approximately 140 artists open their studios to the public.
This year ARTrails will be celebrating its 25th year anniversary. I was one of the artists who helped coordinate and put together the very first ARTrails. Back in 1985 we were looking for a way to get the public to our studios. The program took off from there. There were not any other counties or towns doing this at the time. Now you can find other areas with Open Studio events.
I have many fond memories over the past quarter of a century. Everyone seems to love my studio tours and see all of the power tools. I also invite everyone to enjoy my Gallery & Sculpture Gardens. I look forward to participating again this year. You can find out more about the program at: www.sonomaarts.com/artrails
