Stone Travels
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
Sander, my black lab who is now almost 2 years old, will be taking his first road trip. All of my "studio dogs" have traveled with me cross country delivering sculpture, doing shows and picking up stone. We leave tomorrow for the Los Angeles area to pick up more Argentine Onyx. As soon as I carve a new piece in this translucent green color, it seems to find a new home immediately. "On the road again..."

Thank you all for your generosity and support of such a good cause. T30 was a great party and will always be a special memory that marks my 30th year of sculpture. Your overwhelming support of that special night touches my heart. Thank You All.

Three Decades of Excellence is here!!!!!
So many people dream of being able to support themselves as an artist. I have done that for 30 years! In a new book written by Healdsburg’s own Ray Holley, he tells my story and how I managed to make, show, and sell my art. Three Decades of Excellence tells the story in words and pictures from my start straight out of college at Rhode Island School of Design to my 30th years as a sculptor living in Alexander Valley while showing my work across the country. The design and layout were done by Healdsburg illustrator, Joey Manfre and my great T Barny Team of Lori Mole & Melinda Barnard! An amazing effort by all of them just for me!

Windows
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS What do you see out your window? I see new window stickers. Nice to have this project underway. Power tools were buzzing in two locations here at the T Barny Gallery & Sculpture Gardens today - the window installer and me in the studio. It makes me think about my designs - my "windows on the world". I core drill openings or "windows" to start the pieces. It's an interesting perspective at any angle to view through the sculpture and look upon it's environment. Looking through my pieces becomes an interactive quality that helps you visualize your surroundings. And, because many of my pieces turn 360 degrees, your "windows" can have 360 views. Enjoy looking at my newest work at: www.tbarny.com

T30 Logo for "30 Years of Sculpture" |
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
Have you ever driven around looking at all the houses you once lived in? I had a chance to do just that on my recent trip to the east coast. It's such a flashback to my childhood when my inspiration to create was stirring. I had some great instructors who allowed me to explore my artistic direction which led me to 30 Years of Sculpture. We have a lot planned this year celebrating my 30 Years. Mark your calendars for 9+10+11=T30, September 10, 2011 from 5-8pm. The big event will showcase my life as a sculptor and benefit the Alliance Medical Center. The event includes catering by Zin, music by the Linda Ferro Band and a "T30" live and silent auction. Also available will be my new "T30" Coffee Table Book. Tickets will be $30 each or $50 per couple and be available August 1. You can contact my marketing director lori@tbarny.com for more information.

T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
I'm still in Connecticut today. It has stirred a lot of fond memories being back on campus at Choate Rosemary Hall; my show started here last Saturday. I graduated from here in 1975. Bringing my newest collection of sculpture to Choate and reconnecting with family, friends and collectors has been very rewarding. I have to say though, I'm always anxious to get back to California and get back in my studio. As an artist, I crave my studio time. These 14 new Connecticut pieces will travel in May to the Broadhurst Gallery in Pinehurst, NC. I just spoke to Judy, the gallery owner there, and she said that she is as fascinated with me as an artist as she is with my work. When collectors purchase a T Barny, they are choosing to live with the essence of a T Barny Sculpture. I am my work, my work is me.

Added Value
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
I like to think that I'm exclusive in the fact that I use the same stone for the base as I do for my pieces. I don't know anyone else that is doing it this way. The base compliments the piece and doesn't visually cut it off or interrupt the aesthetics of the sculpture. The sculpture is pinned into this base and is able to turn completely around which gives the viewer 360 pieces all in one. Collector John Batz states, "I own 1600 sculptures but the ones that I touch everyday are T Barny's. As I walk by them, I find I have to turn them slightly to enjoy a different view." One of the tricks I've learned from core drilling is that it can leave behind enough material to create these bases. I feel it really adds value to your piece.

Transparent & Opaque
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
Why do I do that? Do you ever think about why you do whatever it is you do? I always know why I sculpt; it's a part of me, it's my passion. But I'm realizing even more why I translate the designs differently in different types of stone. The boulders I carve fall into two categories: Transparent Stone or Opaque Stone. I try to take the edges of the transparent stone designs as thin as possible to achieve light through my pieces. However, the opaque stone allows me to create bolder edges and form various angles. Rain or shine today, I've been very busy in my studio. I hope you are doing what you love to do.

Sailing into 2011
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
Did you review what you did last year? How many bronzes did I sell? What was everyone's favorite stone? How did my galleries do compared to the year before? Well, my wife Melinda and my Marketing Director Lori and I always sit down in January, usually over sushi, and go over the happenings of the previous year. It's always fascinating to see what people acquired to be part of their everyday lives. I had repeat collectors and I had new collectors. I'm holding steady carving between 25-30 original stone sculptures every year. The new "gem" patina colors for the bronze collection proved popular this past year. I just finished polishing the piece shown above titled Windan. 'Like The Wind' I'm sailing into 2011 with a full show schedule. Windan is shown in the new Sapphire patina color. You can see video of this piece on my website: http://www.tbarny.com. And if you want great sushi, check out: http://www.garychus.com/sakeo

January Sunshine
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
You should of seen this piece "glow" today. This January sunshine is great and keeps me working very full days in the studio. Did you have sunshine in your part of the world today? I hope so. I talked to one of my galleries today in Pinehurst, North Carolina. They don't typically get snow but lately have had snow and ice. It's nice to be a California sculptor!!
I've been working in more transparent stones lately: Argentine Onyx, Banded Onyx, Persian Onyx, Mexican Fluorite and Utah Calcite. I just finished this superellipsoid shape I call ABSTRUSE which means 'Difficult to Understand'. The design is complex so it allows the sunshine to soak in and really "glow" from all different angles. If you don't have sunshine, maybe this sculpture will warm your day. Stay tuned - next week will feature another new piece!

New Year - New Work
T BARNY SCULPTURE NEWS
Happy New Year! Do you have your resolutions and goals for the New Year in place? Mine aren't so much resolutions but rather challenges to meet the demanding schedule I have ahead. 2011 filled in fast with shows. I'm excited about that because it is also the year that I celebrate "T30". Yes, I've been sculpting for 30 years professionally.
Shows this year will take me and my newest work to Connecticut, North Carolina, Santa Fe and throughout California. I'm starting the year in 2 Valentine Shows: Sonoma State University Art Gallery 26th Annual "Art From The Heart" and the Ira Wolk Gallery in St. Helena, CA for "Love Actually". And I was just accepted for the Art History Channel and their Cable TV Network Show which will premiere in March. You can visit the artists accepted through their website and they will be featuring one artist a month. I'll keep you posted.
Pictured above is a piece I just finished of Banded Onyx. It's title is VOLUTE which means 'Spiral Wave'. It stands 20"H x 16"W and 8"L. $5400. It is available here at the studio.
